A well-maintained commercial turf broadcast spreader is essential for consistent, precise fertilizer application. After each use, following a simple maintenance routine can ensure your fertilizer spreader performs reliably. Follow our step-by-step commercial spreader maintenance instructions to keep your Lely broadcast spreader in tip-top shape!
First, clear out any remaining fertilizer. Fertilizer left in the hopper can cause corrosion, so it’s important to empty it as soon as possible. Follow this with a flush of clean water to remove any residual fertilizer particles.
Once the hopper is cleaned, move on to other key components. Flush the feed ring mechanism, ejector disc and frame with water. Pay extra attention to the front of the frame where fertilizer dust often collects. This prevents build-up that can damage your equipment over time.
The transmission is a critical part of the spreader, and greasing it regularly will keep it running smoothly. The Lely W transmission has five grease points:
Checking the gear oil level is a commonly overlooked maintenance step. To do this, remove the gear plug and tilt the spreader forward to verify there’s oil inside. The transmission holds only about 0.7 quarts, so even a small amount is enough to keep it properly lubricated.
A little maintenance after use can greatly extend the life of your Lely commercial broadcast fertilizer spreader. Performing commercial turf spreader maintenance will also help your machine perform reliably every time.
